Miscellaneous Pictures during Live Webcast
On 25 December 2000, you will be able to view the last solar eclipse of the second millennium live from New Hampshire, USA. I will be doing a live webcast of this partial eclipse on Christmas Day from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. EST. Locally the eclipse will begin at 11:13 a.m., be maximum (58.1%) at 12:51 p.m., and end at 2:23 p.m. For full details on this eclipse, visit the NASA/Fred Espanek Eclipse Page and Science@NASA Christmas Eclipse Page. Here's an animation of the eclipse as viewed from New Hampshire:

Equipment and Plans
For close up shots of the eclipsed sun, I will be using a Sony DCR-TRV720 Digital8 Camcorder (25x optical zoom), operating at a focal length of 1920 mm. A Thousand Oaks Type A+ glass solar filter will be used for sun filtration. Periodically I will use my old Sony FX410 8mm Camcorder for wide angle shots of the sky and of the people sharing the event with me. Video frame capture from the camcorders into a laptop PC will be via a Snappy, by Play Inc. I will also be viewing and photographing the Christmas eclipse using my Celestron G5 telescope (5" Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope - 1250 mm focal length), equipped with a Roger W. Tuthill, Inc. Solar Skreen® Filter.
I plan on taking the best images (video and photos) and post them here shortly after the eclipse, so be sure to check back. Please email me (Eric Pauer) with your comments / experiences / suggestions. Thanks for watching and enjoy!
